The first wedding of the season is always an exciting one for me because I feel so refreshed after a photographer’s “winter break” and am pumped to start seeing all the new wedding dress fashions and eat some delicious cake! The night before a first wedding is almost like the night before the first day of the school year – I make tons of lists to make sure I’m not forgetting any details, clean my gear and make sure I’ve bought an adequate amount of snacks to last me through the wedding day. If you saw the amount of snacks I bring to a wedding you would think I was going on a picnic. What can I say? I love being overly prepared!
I knew this wedding would be especially beautiful after Dylan and I met Grant & Jillian at their engagement session and I’ve gotten to know Jillian a little bit more since then. While this couple and their family can be a super extroverted, fun crowd, they are also some of the sweetest, caring people you will ever meet! They all have this natural southern hospitality mixed with a good amount of laughs and heartfelt tears. Some of the highlights of this day includes the groom giving these awesome tomahawks (note: not axes like I kept calling them!), the groomsmen pulling hilarious pranks on the groom, the bridesmaids helping Jillian get through the rainy weather with a smile on her face and the bride’s father having one of the most genuine first looks with his daughter I have ever seen. When I went to escort Jillian’s father to the first look area he quickly told me he didn’t know what a first look was or that he was even doing one! Well, you can’t tell he learned about a first look a few seconds before these pictures were taken because it was so good! By the end of the first look I was starting to tear up! And the first look is only a few minutes of the wedding day! Trust me, the rest of the day was equally as heartwarming and definitely a lot of fun. It was truly a beautiful day and an honor to celebrate with Grant & Jillian!
